It was, as I have said, such exterior things as these - to the exclusion of what is nobler and better still which fascinated my youth, to my shame or not, as your memory may determine. As I look down their flowered dinner-table and note the gently-smiling, untroubled faces, and glance aside to the noiseless footmen and imperturbable but ler, I feel that, though my own attic crust may haply vanish, so long as the Bantocks live they will dine well.
