Présentation de l'éditeur

Pugin's writings and buildings changed the course of British architecture. The Present State , published in 1843, is significant in marking the transition from Pugin the Gothic propagandist and polemicist to Pugin the working architect and designer who can now show actual examples of his own buildings. In this book he espouses Gothic of the early fourteenth century as the pinnacle of architectural excellence, a style which would remain the backbone of the Victorian Gothic Revival for the next thirty years. Having lamented the existing state of church architecture, Pugin proceeds to describe in some detail, and with reference to his own buildings, the essentials of a properly designed and appointed Catholic parish. This pioneering work is reproduced here in facsimile and carries an insightful introduction by leading Pugin scholar, Michael Fisher.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is an impassioned plea to revive the tradition of building churches according to the ancient Catholic architecture of England. The author, a devout Catholic, believes that this architecture is not only beautiful, but also essential to the proper celebration of the Catholic faith. The book examines every aspect of the traditional parish church, from the layout of the building and the placement of the altar to the use of stained glass windows and the importance of a graveyard. The author argues that the church's architecture should reflect the faith it houses and that, through its structure and decor, it should convey the solemn beauty and spiritual significance of Catholic rituals. The book delves into the historical roots of church architecture and the rich symbolism of its elements, while also lamenting the trends of the author's own era that saw a decline in the construction of authentic Catholic churches. The authorââ â¢s work is a powerful argument for the enduring relevance of traditional Catholic architecture, calling on readers to recognize the value of its aesthetic and spiritual significance. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9780259808480_0
