Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book examines the growth, nitrogen content, and yield of different varieties of wheat. The author was concerned with transmitted qualities and conducted long-term experiments in wheat breeding, drawing on data from 1902 to 1910. The author found that wheat plants of the same variety widely varied in nitrogen content and yield when grown under the same environmental conditions. This variability was not the result of genetic heritage, and therefore, unlikely to be transmitted to offspring. The author explored experimental methodology to reduce error in their experiments and increase the reliability of their results. The book details numerous experiments conducted by the author, including trials with centgeners, row plats, and small block plats. The experiments tested replication of single plants, 2-foot rows, and 16-foot rows, as well as the repetition of small blocks sown at the ordinary rate of seeding. It also includes data on experimental error in the nursery and variation in yield from check rows, repeated rows, and small block tests. The book emphasizes the challenges of conducting agricultural experiments in an environment with many uncontrollable factors and provides useful insights and strategies for reducing error in field experiments. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9780260049988_0
