Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book narrates the proceedings of the Eighth Convention of the Civil Service Federation of Canada, held in Ottawa over six days in March 1919, just after the end of World War 1 and during the Paris Peace Conference. Attended by delegates from across Canada representing a broad range of federal government departments and agencies, the convention discussed the status, wages, and working conditions of the civil service, and drafted resolutions on a wide range of proposals for improvement. The convention records include addresses from the organization's founder, Walter Todd, who had just resigned as president due to ill health; the president-elect, Frank Grierson; and Tom Moore, president of the Trades and Labour Congress of Canada. The convention's discussions and resolutions provide insights into the evolution of the Canadian civil service in the early 20th century, the development of the labour movement, and the social and economic challenges faced by Canadians in the aftermath of the war.
