Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book explores the history of Methodism in Staffordshire by drawing on unique insights from the anecdotal recollections of the author's youth and archival research into the region's past. The author positions the development of Methodism in the village of Cheddleton within the broader context of the movement's growth in England. From the first recorded open-air Methodist sermon, which was met with vehement hostility, to the establishment of a permanent chapel in 1849, the author paints a vivid picture of the struggles and triumphs experienced by the early Methodists. These included the conversion of a young local man who, after leaving home due to his father's opposition, returned to the village after three years to find that his father was near to death. The book explores the role of individuals in shaping religious life and the long-lasting legacy of Methodism in the area, which continues to shape the lives of the local people. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
