Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book explores the ongoing efforts of the Ladies Health Protective Association, a group of women dedicated to improving public health in New York City during the late 19th century. The association's primary focus was street cleaning, which they believed was essential for the well-being of the city's residents. The author delves into the group's strategies for addressing issues such as improper waste disposal, unsanitary slaughterhouses, and the lack of proper street cleaning practices. The book also examines the challenges faced by the association in advocating for their cause and the impact of their work on the city's public health landscape. Through the association's journey, the book sheds light on the importance of civic engagement, the role of women in social reform, and the ongoing struggle for a cleaner and healthier urban environment.
