Excerpt from The Cause and Prevention of Yellow Fever: Contained in the Report of the Sanitary Commission of New Orleans
We cannot but hope that a second edition of this valuable report will be published, sufficiently extensive to afford every physician and every Board of Health in our large cities an opportunity of procuring a copy. We do not pretend to decide whether the opinions delivered in it or the principles established by it are legitimately derived, in a professional point of w; but there seems to be to us a great deal of important information, collected with much labor from a great variety of sources, which ought in some way or other to be spread before the public.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book explores the relationship between humidity and epidemics, revealing that when the dew point reaches a certain critical level, epidemics occur. It also reveals that other local conditions, such as soil disturbances, can also contribute to the development of epidemics. The author asserts that yellow fever is preventable, and that the presence of two general hygienic conditions are absolutely essential for the origination and transmission of yellow fever: one atmospheric, the other terrene. This groundbreaking work challenges prevailing scientific theories about the transmission of disease and offers practical advice on how to prevent epidemics.
