Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book introduces a novel method for estimating visitor use of developed recreation sites. The self-registration method uses data collected from visitor self-registration cards to establish relationships between visitor counts and traffic counts. These relationships can then be applied to season-long traffic count records to estimate season-long use. The book provides detailed instructions for selecting sites, sampling times, equipment, and administration of the self-registration system, as well as for visitor sampling, editing, coding, and keypunching of field data. It also includes computer programs for estimating visitor use from self-registration data for three different situations: sites with sample counts made during the year, sites with no sample counts made during the year but with sample counts made in previous years, and sites with no sample counts made at all. The book's insights on visitor use estimation will be of great value to recreation managers and researchers.
