It provides valuable insights into timber, minerals, and waterpower in Brazil's vast interior, with a key focus on the Amazon Basin, the largest reserve of tropical forest in the world. The book reveals that Brazil is rich in natural resources, with an estimated 931 million acres of productive forests, which cover over 40 percent of Brazil's total land area, and constitute more than half of all of South Americaâs forests. Although Brazil is a net exporter of structural timber, it still relies on imports of woodpulp and paper to meet domestic demand. The author discusses some of the main forest types in Brazil such as the Tropical Rain Forest, which consists of Amazon lowlands and coastal mountain forests. There is also the Parana pine forest and Palm forest, both important to Brazil. The book concludes by discussing Brazil's lack of infrastructure development in many of its forested areas, which poses a challenge for the continued growth of its forest industries. However, the author maintains that Brazil's potential as a global supplier of sustainable forest products is substantial.
