Excerpt from The Proceedings of the Constitutional Committee, Convened at Henniker, New Hampshire, January 4, 1854
Mr. Hiram P. Hunt, of Gray, Me., had been nominated as Committee from that State, but declining, the nomination was trans ferred to Thomas J. Chamberlain, of Bangor, Me., but he failing to be present, in accordance with the notice given by the Chairman, Mr. Brown moved that william M. Chamberlain, of South Read ing, Mass, be invited to fill the vacancy. The motion was carried, and Mr. Chamberlain took his seat with the following rule to be observed by him, He is to act in the name of the Mutes of Maine, and to' retain the seat until otherwise ordered.
