Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book examines the health of women in the US/Mexico border community of Nogales, Arizona. The author collected data by conducting a community survey of women aged 18-44 and a survey of primary medical care providers. The study investigates a range of health concerns, from the use of preventive health strategies and medical services to substance abuse, domestic violence, and eating disorders. The research found that the majority of women had a recent pap smear and provider breast examination and had performed breast self-examination. However, working women were less likely to have had these check-ups. It was also found that two-thirds of women reported current use of family planning methods, and over three-quarters of pregnant women had started prenatal care in the first trimester of pregnancy. The author argues that health professionals can play a vital role in identifying and referring women for necessary treatment. They emphasize the need to address financial barriers to care and to improve access to preventive health services for all women, particularly working women. The data presented emphasizes the importance of health professionals in promoting health and addressing disparities among women in this border community.
