Synopsis

Excerpt from The Oberlin Alumni Magazine, Vol. 17: March, 1921

Far afield sometimes one finds unexpected indorsement of an idea long so firmly established in one's own mind that its emphasis at this late day seems almost ridious - as if some one were to arise and solemnly de Partnership clare his complete approval of the Copernican theory! Take, In the Home for instance, co-education, one of the corner-stones of Oberlin.

One Harold Spender, an English newspaper man, has been in the United States and like other itors from abroad with a gift for writing straightway puts his impressions of this country into print. To the London Telegraph he expresses his surprise at the equal partnership between man and woman which he observed in the average American home. He is astonished to find that in practically all the big secondary schools boys and girls are educated together.

The equality of the sexes impressed the traveler both in the American home and the American school. In the English home, he says by way of contrast, there is too often a rivalry between man and woman, the boy and the girl.
