Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents the results of a study on the effectiveness of inert dusts and malathion in protecting stored shelled corn from insects. The author investigated the impact of the treatments on insect populations, commercial grade, insect-damaged kernels, malathion residue levels, and insect behavior. The findings suggest that inert dusts and malathion can effectively control insect infestations and damage for at least a year. While the dust treatments lowered the corn's test weight and moisture readings, they did not significantly alter its commercial grade. The study also revealed that the inert dusts exhibited repellency towards rice weevils, with diatomaceous earth showing higher repellency than silica aerogel. These findings provide valuable insights into the use of inert dusts and malathion for stored grain protection, highlighting their potential for maintaining grain quality and reducing insect-related losses.
