Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book proposes a sweeping reform of France's current system of departmental governance. The author, writing in the wake of France's crushing defeat in the Franco-Prussian War, argues that France's hyper-centralized administrative apparatus has failed the people, leading to corruption, inefficiency, and a stifling of local initiative. As a remedy, the author proposes a shift in power away from the national government and towards elected departmental councils, which would in turn form executive commissions to oversee the day-to-day running of local affairs and would supervise the work of locally elected officials. The text is a meticulously researched and detailed blueprint for a more democratic and responsive system of local government, and will be of interest to students of French history, politics, and public administration. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N de rf. du vendeur 9780266169079_0
