Synopsis

Excerpt from Practice of Medicine, Vol. 6

A distinction should be made between atheromatosis and arteriosclerosis; the former is a degeneration without symptoms, the latter is also a degeneration but is accompanied by certain changes in the arterioles which may lead to symptoms.

Arteritis. - Acute inflammation of the arteries has never been observed ex cept as an extension of inflammation occurring in neighboring parts. In this respect the arteries differ from the veins. The nearest approach to acute arteritis is the unusual disease known as periarteritis nodosa.
