This act extended previous sailcloth industry incentives passed in 1756, 1757, 1758, and 1759. The author provides the text of the 1760 act and sets it within the context of a series of prior and subsequent parliamentary acts designed to assist the British sailcloth industry, many of which imposed duties on imported sailcloth from Germany, Russia, and France. Other provisions within these acts were intended to prevent the production of defective sailcloth and protect consumers from fraud. The author provides tables which outline the various provisions of these acts, along with the dates of their passage by Parliament, and the dates on which they became effective. The author also provides a detailed index that enables the reader to quickly locate specific provisions within the acts.
