MY object in writing this pamphlet is to place briefly before the public the wretched condition of the dwellings of the masses in London, and to explain the proposed remedies. It is divided into the seven chapters, viz.: I. Report of the Royal Commission; II. The Present Condition of London; Chapters III. - VI. Deal with the Housing of the Working Classes Act, 1890; while in Chapter VII an attempt is made to indicate The True Remedies.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book provides a study of the wretched living conditions endured by London's vast working class in the latter Victorian era. It details the rampant overcrowding, lack of basic sanitation, and the effects of demolition of poor yet densely populated areas. The author examines the inadequacy of existing legislation aimed at improving the situation, and outlines possible remedies, including empowering local authorities to buy land and build houses for the working classes, and implementing a tax on London landlords to fund these endeavors. The book offers invaluable insights into the plight of the urban poor in industrialized Britain and serves as a catalyst for understanding the urgent reforms necessary to address such deplorable living conditions.
