Excerpt from Annual Report of the American Historical Association for the Year 1914, Vol. 2 of 2
In the ysis of the material many of the titles, both topical and personal, are divided into paragraphs, with subtitles in italics. In such cases cross references are placed at the end of the paragraph to which they especially pertain. Names, especially in the source material, have been identified and filled out wherever possible. Let ters have been calendared in cases where no calendar was printed with the collection. These calendars, the most important Of which are Bayard correspondence, Calhoun correspondence, Chase correspond ence, Murray correspondence, and Texan diplomatic correspondence, can be found through the title Letters. Letters are entered under writer and receiver, and if not calendared under the writer a cross reference is given to the calendar: title. Letters hitherto printed are entered usually under the writer; but where there are many written by one person, as in the Calhoun or Chase correspondence, they are entered under the receiver. Reports onthe archives of the various States and kindred material are itemized under-the names Of the States and also given under group and partiar topical titles; but as the amount of detailing difiers in the reports, the ysis is less minute for some States than for others.
