Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents the findings that resulted from an expedition in search of the Perenà and Tambo rivers, undertaken by Lieutenant Arturo Wertheman under the auspices of the Peruvian government in the late 1870s. The author was tasked with leading a crew of men on rafts he had custom-designed for the specific conditions of the wild rivers, which were largely unknown to the civilized world at that time. The men traveled along the courses of the Perenà and Tambo rivers, many sections of which were navigated by water for the first time ever. During the journey, the well-armed crew repelled attacks from indigenous peoples along the banks of the river. Around 20 of these indigenous peoples were captured and kept as guides to facilitate communication and safe passage through the rivers. The expedition's thorough documentation of the geography and features of each river, including details of rapids and stretches of white water, offered profound insights into the natural conditions of both waterways. Not only were these findings groundbreaking for scientists and historians, but they also had practical uses for explorers, travelers, and future settlers in the region.
