'Business Information: A Systems Approach' provides an overview of information, organizations and management, based on a consistent framework of systems concepts, and addressing the world of global communications and a global economy. This third edition of Information Systems for Business has been substantially reworked and updated to take account of developments in this rapidly changing area. The book continues to emphasize systems thinking and concepts but in a more global arena, reflecting the changes to the way in which information is communicated. The message remains that systems concepts are the key to understanding this new complexity and relating it to practical management application.

New features:

* Lead-in cases to chapters which relate conceptual material to lively, contemporary issues of organizational and global information
* Two new chapters, which extend the coverage of systems and control concepts found in Chapter 3 of earlier editions
* An increased role for extracts from contemporary sources, which help students to relate systems concepts to the business world around them
* New and original material on how management systems can cope with a changing environment
* Explanation of the significance of Requisite Variety and Asby's law for the limitations of conventional management views of control
* More explicit examples of the interrelationship between information and communications technology, which focus on the Internet, communication and networked systems
* Reviewed and increased coverage of the human and organizational aspects of systems development
* Instructor's Manual and supporting website

Classic features of the book:

* combines concepts and applications to provide a balanced view of the subject
* chapter-by-chapter, lead-in case studies introduce the subject in a way that shows the key issues and questions to be covered
* outstanding pedagogy including end-of-chapter key words, seminar agendas, exam topics and project dissertation subjects
* appendices with additional short cases for referral to examples and issues across the entire subject

This fully-comprehensive text continues to provide a coherent conceptual framework for the understanding, analysis, improvement, specification, design, implementation and exploitation of information systems in a management systems context. The author's accessible and readable style make it an invaluable guide for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
