The past several years have brought economic, commercial, and investment revolution to China where a consumer society is beginning to emerge. By putting China's trade and economic relations into global and regional perspectives, US-China Trade examines how this phenomenon will affect trade with the United States. The contributors come from a wide range of scholarly and business fields, giving the book a unique combination of breadth and specificity. Among the issues covered are China's changing economic role; the legal environment surrounding investment; the problems and resource opportunities associated with doing business with China; and negotiation strategies. The volume also focuses on the practical business techniques, strategies, and practices peculiar to China, making it informative reading to scholars and students of China's trade relations and economic policies.

Trade paperback. Etat : Very good. First Printing. 25 cm. xvi, [2], 329, [5] pages. Tables and Figures. Bibliography. Index. Inscribed to Margaret Stuckey by the author. Eugene K. Lawson, former head of the U.S.-Russia Business Council (USRBC), has more than 30 years of experience in international affairs and economics. For 15 years, Mr. Lawson led the USRBC, one of the most powerful business organizations bridging the two countries with more than 300 U.S. companies with business interests in Russia and a smaller, but growing, number of Russian companies with U.S. interests. Under his leadership, the USRBC became one of the nation's premier trade organizations promoting the commercial relationship between the United States and Russia. He previously served at the Department of Labor as deputy under secretary of labor for international affairs; at the Department of Commerce as deputy assistant secretary of commerce for East Asia and the Pacific and as deputy assistant secretary of commerce for East-West trade; and at the U.S. Department of State as staff assistant and special assistant to the secretary of state for East Asia and the Pacific, and deputy director of the Office of Special and Bilateral Affairs. He was U.S. ambassador to the International Labor Organization in Geneva; member of the board of directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation; and acting chairman and president of the Export-Import Bank of the United States. Mr. Lawson was director of the Master of Science in Foreign Service Program, director of the Program for China Studies, and a professional lecturer at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. This book is an outgrowth of the author's experiences in the U.S. Government, in education, and in the China trade. After dealing with China from a variety of perspectives, the author concluded that there was a need for a book to assess the realistic potential of U.S.-China trade and economic relations.
