Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is a travelogue authored by an intrepid woman and Catholic convert, detailing her experiences venturing out on her own for two years across diverse lands including the heart of Asia. The author's initial career as an instructor of languages took her across Europe teaching German, French, Italian, and English, during which time she experienced disillusionment with the Catholic Church. The challenges of dealing with her eye condition prompted a reinvention leading her to serve as an interpreter for the American delegation at the 1867 World's Fair in Paris, shortly after immersing herself in diverse religious orders to explore her spiritual calling. Ultimately, she found her experiences in the outside world opened her mind to the shallowness of the religious institutions she had encountered.
