Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents a critical study of the Vita Genovefae, the sole document which provides information regarding the life and times of Saint Genevieve, patron saint of Paris. It delves into the various recensions of the text, exploring their historical context and linguistic characteristics to determine which version most closely resembles the original. The author argues that the so-called A recension, despite its prominence in previous scholarship, is likely a later interpolation and that the C recension, long ignored, may in fact preserve the earliest version of the Vita. The author's analysis reveals the complex process of transmission and interpolation that has shaped the text over centuries, shedding light on the challenges of historical research and the importance of meticulous textual criticism. This book is a valuable resource for scholars of medieval history and hagiography, offering a fresh perspective on the life of Saint Genevieve and the complex textual traditions surrounding it.
