This new system, which the author calls "stenotypography," contains characters that more closely resemble the sounds they represent than the current Roman alphabet. The author posits that if this new alphabet were adopted, the savings from reduced printing and learning costs would be immense, and additionally that the easier acquisition of the language would spread literacy and knowledge. The author suggests the new alphabet could also be used to mark condensed expressions in existing printed works.
