Born in Urbino in 1483, Raffaello first trained with his father, Giovanni Santi, a painter, before moving to Perugia to study under the influential artist, Pietro Perugino. By 1504, the young artist had relocated to Florence, where he immersed himself in the innovative techniques and styles prevalent in that artistic hub. Raffaello's early works, primarily religious-themed paintings such as the 'Madonna and Child with Saint John the Baptist' (c. 1505), showcased his mastery of the delicate, graceful style of the Umbrian school.
