Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents the author's balanced response to a lecture delivered to a protestant audience by a devout Catholic on the legacy of John Calvin. The lecture, delivered to an audience of Calvin's co-religionists, outlines the Catholic view of Calvin and his influence on the doctrines of Protestantism. The author argues that Calvin, while a brilliant theologian who played a central role in the Protestant Reformation, was also an intolerant and sometimes unjust figure whose dogmatic approach to theology and his elitist ecclesiastical model stifled religious and social progress. The book offers a fair and measured critique of Calvin's teachings, while also showing the ways that his commitment to some of these principles laid the foundation for certain aspects of modernity, such as individualism and intellectual inquiry. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N de rf. du vendeur 9780282158743_0
