Veit Sto� (um 1447-1533) war ein Bildhauer und -schnitzer der Sp�tgotik. Er war vor allem in Krakau und N�rnberg t�tig. Erstmals 1477 erscheint er in den Quellen, als er nach Krakau ging, um sein erstes Hauptwerk, das Hochaltarretabel der dortigen Marienkirche (bis 1489) und weitere Werke, u. a. das Grabmal des polnischen K�nigs Kasimir IV. Jagiello in der Krakauer Kathedrale (1492) zu schaffen. Reich geworden kehrte Veit Sto� 1496 nach N�rnberg zur�ck, wo er steinerne und h�lzerne Skulpturen fertigte, zuerst das mit Namen und Meisterzeichen versehene Relief der Volckamerschen Ged�chtnisstiftung (1499). In N�rnberg schuf Veit Sto� u.a. den Bamberger Altar, beauftragt 1520–1523 f�r das Karmeliter-Kloster N�rnberg; wegen der Reformation kam er zun�chst in die Kirche Unserer Lieben Frau in Bamberg, 1937 dann in den Bamberger Dom. In den K�pfen seiner Figuren spricht sich innige und zarte Empfindung aus; die Formengebung ist noch gebunden und der Faltenwurf von der Manier des sp�tgotischen Stils beherrscht.
