Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book examines the history of the modern languages' Quarterly with which was incorporated The Modern Language Teachers' Guide. Its purpose is to provide a platform for the expression of English thought on modern literature and to encourage English investigation into the problems of language and pedagogy. The author advocates for the Quarterly to serve as the organ of the Modern Language Association. It would serve a wider purpose than this, containing a variety of articles on the scholarship of the modern and medieval tongues. Some Italian Dante books are reviewed. The author provides a detailed review of Dr Scartazzini's Enciclopedia Dantesca, discussing the pros and cons of the work and offering a revised version of the article on Cary's Agathonto show that Agathon is not to be identified with Agathon of Samos but is the very Agathon that concerns us. This strange tendency on the part of Prof. Skeat seems inspired by a sentence in Dr Bech's article.
