Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is a collection of essays examining the complex and historically fraught relationship between the German state and the Catholic Church. The author, a German statesman, explores the tensions that have arisen from the Vatican's claims to authority over secular affairs, particularly in the realm of education and the appointment of clergy. The essays delve into the historical roots of these conflicts, tracing them back to the Reformation and the rise of Protestantism in Germany. They examine the role of the Catholic Church in German politics, its alliance with conservative forces, and its opposition to the unification of Germany under Prussian leadership. The author argues that the Vatican's insistence on its temporal power has led to a fundamental incompatibility with the modern nation-state. He contends that the Catholic Church's claims to infallibility and its opposition to religious freedom undermine the principles of democratic governance and individual liberty. This book offers a valuable historical perspective on the ongoing tensions between religion and the state in Germany. It sheds light on the deep-rooted conflicts that have shaped German history and continue to resonate in contemporary society. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
