Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book focuses on a three-year study conducted by two doctors at the Laboratory of Animal Pathology and Hygiene at the University of Illinois. The investigation is a comparative study which focuses on the presence of pathogenic anaerobes, with special emphasis given to B. botulinus, in cases of poliomyelitis in children living in Illinois during the early 20th century. The authors analyze the clinical and epidemiological features of a subset of six cases of poliomyelitis in children in which B. botulinus type A was present in the excretions, and evaluate the possible connection between B. botulinus and foodborne transmission of the disease. This book emerged from research conducted at the University of Illinois, and forms part of a wider scientific investigation into the prevalence of botulism in nature and its potential impact on human health. The research findings contribute to a discussion on the etiology of botulism in human beings, as well as the relationship between foodborne botulism and disease in children.
