Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is the second volume of essays from a conference held in 2017 that updates the content of the first volume, also published by the Polynesian Society. It contains 22 papers mostly from historians and anthropologists. The papers are a mixture of local and 'foreign' scholarship. It opens with three papers on the history of the Cook Islands, and in the following sections turns to Rarotonga and other islands, and in the last section to "Polynesian Linguistics". The mixture of detailed historical analysis and reflection on bigger theoretical issues provides the volume with plenty of thematic depth. This is enhanced by the high quality of the contributions, with the authors drawing on a very broad range of archival, oral and archaeological sources. The significance of this second volume lies not only in its updating of its predecessor, but in its provision of a new benchmark against which future work on the history of the Cook Islands can be measured. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9780282425173_0
