Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book explores the vibrant and often overlooked history of discussions surrounding method in Renaissance Europe. It challenges the common misconception that modern philosophical thinking began with Descartes, arguing instead that the concept of method was a central preoccupation of thinkers from the sixteenth century onwards. The author examines how Renaissance scholars drew on the methodologies of ancient Greek thinkers such as Plato, Aristotle, and Galen, carefully analyzing how these thinkers' ideas about method were adapted and contested by Renaissance writers. The book delves into the complex relationship between the methodologies used in the arts and the sciences, tracing how ideas about method developed in fields like logic, rhetoric, medicine, and even law. The book further examines the emergence of a distinct "scientific method" and explores the heated debates that arose between proponents of different approaches, including the influential "single method" championed by the controversial figure Peter Ramus. Through careful analysis of the philosophical and intellectual climate of the Renaissance, the author sheds light on the significance of these debates in shaping the intellectual landscape of Europe and ultimately paving the way for the scientific revolutions of the following centuries. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9780282555627_0
