Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents a collection of groundbreaking photographs of planetary and stellar spectra taken by the late Dr. Henry Draper, one of the pioneers of astronomical photography. The author begins by describing the invention of the silvered glass reflector, which made it possible to capture the faint light of celestial bodies. He then goes on to discuss the various experimental setups he used to obtain the photographs, including the use of quartz prisms, direct vision prisms, and diffraction gratings. Finally, he presents the results of his research, which include the identification of several new lines in the spectra of stars and planets. The book also contains a list of the photographic plates in Mrs. Draper's possession, and the results of the measurement of these plates by Professor E. C. Pickering. The author concludes by discussing the significance of Draper's work for our understanding of the composition of stars and planets, and for the development of astrophysics as a whole.
