This book presents a series of principles for the establishment of precision in the meaning of dynamical terms, with the intention of eliminating their current confusion. After establishing a clear distinction between pure elements (force, velocity, time, and mass) and functions derived from them (space, power, work, and momentum), the author sets out to confirm that work stored in a moving body is equal to half the product of its mass and the square of its velocity. The book also defines other concepts such as the "force of falling bodies," "vis viva," "energy," "quantity of motion," and "mode of force." Each of these the author rejects in favor of adopting standard terms which more clearly represent the corresponding dynamical quantities. While many of the issues discussed in this book occurred over a century ago, the principles introduced are still relevant today and provide a useful framework for thinking about the fundamental concepts of dynamics.
