Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book traces the life and legacy of Antoine Girouard, a priest whose tireless efforts and unwavering faith led to the founding of St. Hyacinthe College in Quebec, Canada. The author provides a detailed account of Girouard's humble beginnings, his missionary work among indigenous communities, and his subsequent appointment as the parish priest of St. Hyacinthe. It was during his time there that Girouard, deeply concerned by the lack of educational opportunities for his parishioners, embarked on the ambitious project of establishing a college. The book delves into the challenges and triumphs Girouard faced in bringing his vision to life, including fundraising, securing land, and recruiting faculty. The author also explores the broader historical and social context of Girouard's work, highlighting the importance of education in shaping the identity and aspirations of French-Canadians during the 19th century. Ultimately, this book offers a compelling portrait of a remarkable individual whose dedication to serving his community left an enduring mark on the educational landscape of Quebec and beyond, inspiring generations of students and shaping the province's cultural fabric.
