Di quali miracoli intendesse parlare il Petrarca noi non sappiamo, n� forse sapeva egli stesso, poich� Roberto d'' Angi�, che il Boccaccio descrive assai mediocre d'' intelletto, non aveva mai compiuta una sola impresa militare o politica che fosse stata degna di epopea; ma la glorificazione iperbolica del cantore di Scipione rimane sempre come uno dei segni assai caratteristici del destino singolare di un uomo come Ro berto, a cui pi� volte la fortuna ed i contemporanei parvero aprire le vie della gloria, mentre altrettante volte gli stessi artefici della sua potenza, con non preordinata concordia, gliele chiusero tutte in maniera definitiva ed inesorabile.
