Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book examines the extensive controversy surrounding Torquato Tasso's epic poem, "Gerusalemme liberata." Published in 1581, the poem sparked a debate among literary scholars over its merits compared to other works of its time, particularly Ariosto's "Orlando Furioso." The author traces the evolution of this debate, providing insights into the critical reception of Tasso's work. Through an analysis of the arguments presented by both sides, the book sheds light on the literary and aesthetic standards of the period. It explores the significance of the debate in shaping the understanding and appreciation of epic poetry, particularly regarding concepts of heroism, romantic love, and the role of the marvelous in literature. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
