Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book provides a thorough exploration of the history of sacred representations in Palermo during the 17th and 18th centuries, offering insights into their significance as precursors to modern drama. Unlike most works on the topic, this book examines the unique local tradition of these performances, particularly the famous "Atto della Pinta" and the "Palermitana." The author traces the origins of Sicilian sacred representations to the Middle Ages, highlighting their evolution from simple liturgical reenactments to elaborate spectacles that showcased music, dance, and elaborate stagecraft. The book sheds light on the creative process behind these productions, the challenges faced by their authors, and their profound impact on the cultural and religious life of Palermo. By situating these sacred representations within the broader context of European theatrical history, the author demonstrates their importance in the development of modern drama. The book also explores the complex interplay between religious and secular elements in these performances, offering valuable insights into the social and cultural tensions of the time. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N de rf. du vendeur 9780282809539_0
