Synopsis

'Learning Chinese' teaches basic conversational and literary skills in Mandarin. It is designed to build language ability while stimulating learners' curiosity about the linguistic structures of the language as well as the geography, history and culture of China. Julian K. Wheatley is visiting associate professor of Chinese at the National Institute of Education at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He was previously senior lecturer in Foreign Languages and Literatures at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and director of the MIT China Programme.
