Rather than simply distinguishing one person from the next, names often conveyed the nature or attributes of the person. To know someone’s name was to have an intimate knowledge of that person. This is especially true when it comes to the names and titles of God, which reveal his character. By praying the divine names and titles and learning about the biblical context in which the name was revealed, we can have a more intimate knowledge of who God is and how we can rely on him in every circumstance of our lives.
