Hardcover. Etat : Fine. Etat de la jaquette : fine. First edition. First edition (no statement and no aditional printings noted as is correct for this publishing house). hardcover. 145 pp. Foreword by Johnny Cash. Fine, touch of foxing to the top edge of the text block, in a bright, crisp , price intact dust jacket. A remarkably uncommon book, an autobiographical account by legendary performer, musican, and composer Carl Perkins (1932-1998). In 1956, Perkins' recording of "Blue Suede Shose" topped the charts, selling nearly two million copies, and was a major influence in the music revolution in the 1950s. Perkins was destined to become a Sun Records super star (as were Elvis and Johnny Cash). In this cautionary story, Perkins tells of his near-fatal struggle with alcohol--reaching for the top only to hit the bottom.--and his finding of God. N° de réf. du vendeur E30173

Etat : As New. A name and rubber stamp to the end page otherwise a tight and unmarked copy. Jacket is worn and clipped " Carl Perkins candidly opens his heart and shares his lifelong battles with alcohol and sin. The book is a straightforward short read. Perkins' message of redemption based on God's grace through Christ's death on the cross is powerful. Perkins was a superb songwriter and performer who never received the fame and acclaim bestowed on his contemporaries such as Elvis and Johnny Cash. A car accident obliterates Perkins's big break moment when "Blue Suede Shoes" hit the charts and T.V. bookings were lined up. Perkins lost one brother to a brain tumor and another to suicide. He sunk into drunken and depression-ridden periods only to come out more humbled and appreciative of his many blessings particularly a strong loving faithful wife and an equally faithful friend in Cash. Perkins picked cotton as a child, lived in poverty, dreamed of success as a musician, attained fame, suffered numerous tragedies, and battled the bottle to the end. Whenever he was knocked down God picked him up. Amazing Grace indeed. See you in heaven Carl. Thanks for the frank and open testimony."-Mike-On the back of the jacket there are a few small tears.
