Nicholas Barker, one of the authors of "Red Ice," commanded the British Navy's ice patrol ship, Endurance, before and during the Falklands War with Argentina. He is perhaps best known for his repeated warnings to the British government of Argentine intentions to invade the Falklands before the actual invasion in 1982, and for his courage and seamanship in eluding enemy war ships until British reinforcements arrived in the South Atlantic. "Red Ice" benefits from Barker's experiences. First Printing, First U.S. Edition. About 5 7/8 x 8 1/2 inches, 250 pages in red paper-covered boards with gold lettering on spine. Pictorial dustjacket's front panel shows icy shoreline behind a sea full of ice floes; lettering in red and white on front panel and spine; back panel contains single quote from novel against white background. Top edges of boards and spine show a 1/8 to 1/4 inch line faded by sun, o/w boards and text are complete, clean and unmarked with no other significant flaws. Dustjacket shows light wear at edges, corners and spine ends. No major tears or chipping. Not price-clipped, not ex-library. One of the few novels to come out of the Falklands War.
