Uncommon signed, and Treuer's books are uncommon signed in general. A reflection after eighteen years on moving from the city to Northern Minnesota and rehabilitating deteriorated acreage as a tree farm. A reissue of this book won the Sigurd Olson Nature Writing Award in 1996. As the jacket says, the book is "at once an unpretentious and deeply philosophical chronicle of a man's quest for something to belong to, an informative study of ecology and conservation, and a tender, amusing view of the natural world." With a strain of indigenous perspective, too, as Treuer's wife was Chippewa. Pen illustrations by Sandra Sandholm Reischel. A prominent blurb by Robert Pirsig, author ofZen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, on the rear of the jacket. Laid in is a photocopy of a review of the book in The Washington Post.Near fine in brown cloth with a little bumping to spine ends.
