Robin Bade was a high school teacher in math and physics before enrolling at the Australian National University, where she graduated with a Ph.D. in economics. Since then, she has held faculty appointments at Bond University in Australia, University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and Universities of Manitoba, Toronto, and Western Ontario in Canada.
Bade¿s research has appeared in the International Economic Review and the Economic Record. In a joint effort with her husband, Michael Parkin, the couple created the Bade-Parkin index of central bank independence that spawned a vast amount of further research. Their pioneering work has contributed to the movement towards greater independence of central banks around the world.
Bade currently teaches at the University of Western Ontario, and is dedicated to the challenge of explaining economics ever more clearly to an ever-expanding body of students.
Michael Parkin began teaching immediately after graduating with a B.A. from the University of Leicester, England. He has taught economics all his professional life, and is currently professor of economics at the University of Western Ontario in Canada. He is past president of the Canadian Economics Association, and has served on the editorial boards of the American Economic Review and the Journal of Monetary Economics.Parkin has conducted extensive research, both on his own and with his wife, Robin Bade, which has resulted in more than 160 publications in journals and edited volumes, including the American Economic Review, the Journal of Political Economy, and the Review of Economic Studies, among others He is the author of the best selling textbook, Economics, now in its sixth edition.
This text is suitable for college and university-level courses in Introductory Economics (Macro/Micro).
Foundations of Macroeconomics and Foundations of Microeconomics feature a tightly constructed pedagogical approach with a goal to give students an in-depth understanding of economic principles in a way that is clear and concise. These texts are concerned every step of the way with engaging students' interest and understanding. It presents Key Concepts in a more focused and shorter manner, but the concepts are not watered down.
The glue that connects the chapters and the entire teaching/learning package is the "Checkpoint" feature. The author's approach is to review new material when it is fresh in students' minds. "Checkpoints" reinforces key points of the chapter by amplifying concepts with a full page of practice problems and solutions that immediately emphasize the learning objectives and strengthen students' understanding of the material.
Both texts provide a serious, yet accessible economics course that is focused on helping students understand the basic principles of economics, connecting these principles to today's economic issues, and developing a lasting interest in economics as a relevant part of their own lives.
