Advances in Metal Additive Manufacturing explains fundamental information and the latest research on new technologies, including powder bed fusion, direct energy deposition using high energy beams, and hybrid additive and subtractive methods. This book introduces readers to the technology, provides everything needed to understand how the different stages work together, and inspires to think beyond traditional metal processing to capture new ideas in metal. Chapters offer an introduction on metal additive manufacturing, processes, and properties and standards and then present surveys on the most significant international advances in metal additive manufacturing.
Throughout, the book presents a focus on the effect of important process parameters on the microstructure, mechanical properties and wear behavior of additively manufactured parts.

Dr. Salunkhe Sachin is a Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Gazi University, Ankara, Turkey. He received his Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, India. He received his Master of Technology in CAD/CAM and PhD from S.V. National Institute of Technology, Surat, India. His main research interests are in press tool design, metal additive manufacturing, A.I. applications in manufacturing, expert systems for die design, sheet metal forming, wear analysis, fatigue analysis, and high strain rate. He has more than 160 research papers in reputed journals, conferences and 25 book chapters to his credit. He is also an editor of various journals, such as Metals. Lubricants (MDPI), Advances in Materials Science and Engineering, Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part L: Journal of Materials: Design and Applications (SAGE) and International journal for simulation and multidisciplinary design optimization, EDP Science.
Sergio T. Amancio-Filho is a full professor for aviation materials and manufacturing techniques at Graz University of Technology (TU Graz), Austria. He is the deputy head of the Institute of Materials Science, Joining and Forming and chair of the 'Austrian Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) Endowed Professorship for Aviation'. The focus of his work has been on the correlation between processing, microstructure and material properties aiming at developing, understanding and optimizing additive manufacturing and joining techniques for lightweight engineering structures. Before joining TU Graz, he was a Helmholtz-Young Investigator group leader at Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht and assistant professor for Joining Technology at the Institute of Polymer Composites of Hamburg University of Technology (TU Hamburg, Germany), and also developed and patented prize-winning new joining techniques for polymer-metal hybrid structures.. He has been awarded 21 patents, co-published over 160 technical publications and co-edited the first technical book on joining technology of metal-polymer structures in 2018. Prof. Amancio-Filho is a recipient of national and international awards, including the Granjon Prize 2009 of the International Institute of Welding, the German High Tech Champions 2013 of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and the Georg-Sachs Prize 2014 of the "Stifterverband Metalle und dem Fachverband der Nichteisen-Metallindustrie Österreichs" and German Society for Materials Science (DGM). Furthermore, he has advised several undergraduation and graduation works and is an active member in different scientific and technical committees in Europe and America.
Prof. (Dr.) J. Paulo Davim is a Full Professor at the University of Aveiro, Portugal, with over 35 years of experience in Mechanical, Materials, and Industrial Engineering. He holds multiple distinguished academic titles, including a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and a DSc from London Metropolitan University.
