Dr. Eman E. Taher is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Clinical Parasitology at the Research Institute of Ophthalmology. The institute studies and performs different diagnostic techniques for parasites especially those affecting the eyes.
Dr. Taher is the head of the Clinical Parasitology Unit. His extensive work has been on the diagnosis of Acanthamoeba, Toxoplasma, Toxocara and Schistosomiasis, as well as other different parasites, which has yielded over 20 papers, with different faculties, post-doctoral fellows and students. Additionally, Dr. Taher has also completed extensive research on different molecular diagnostic techniques for different parasites including electrophoresis, PCR, Western blot, DNA-extraction, ELISA and dot-ELISA. In addition, to stem cell preparation, characterization being a member of the stem cell laboratory at the Research Institute of Ophthalmology, he earned a six-month scholarship at the Eye and Ear Institute, Pittsburgh University, USA. His research portfolio includes variable papers on different parasites.
Dr. Mohamed Elalfy is a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London, the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow, the European Board of Ophthalmology and the International Council of Ophthalmology. He is an active member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and of The European Cornea Society and Refractive Surgery. Mr Elalfy travels abroad as an invited guest to share his expertise through teaching and live surgeries. He is Fellowship Programme Director in Corneoplastic Unit, Queen Victoria Hospital where he trains four fellows annually. Having obtained two academic qualifications through his career of more than 15 years in ophthalmology and with more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, Mr Elalfy puts evidence-based ophthalmology in the heart of his practice.
