Synopsis

Ten police cases where Crimewatch and its viewers have vitally contributed to successful prosecutions - a new true crime classic.Since 1984, the BBC's Crimewatch programme has stood at the forefront of British public service broadcasting. Introduced since the beginning by Nick Ross, the programme presents detailed histories of unsolved serious crimes committed in the United Kingdom. Crimewatch has a regular audience of millions, whose calls have led to thousands of arrests and hundreds of convictions. Accounts of murder, assault, serial rape, armed robbery, fraud - and much else - underscore the bleak nature of crime, the opposing vigour of the law and the incredible humanity of those involved. The stories also illustrate the various ways seemingly inexplicable cases are cracked. Drawing on official records and programme material as well as interviews with police and victims of crime, and with a foreword by Nick Ross, Crimewatch Solved - The Inside Story demonstrates the value of a television programme that enables its viewers to make such a crucial difference.
