Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book presents an evaluation of the educational value of a 4-H Club centered on food preservation for young women. The study was conducted in rural Massachusetts in 1939 and surveyed girls enrolled in the program against a control group. The evaluation measured the impact of the program across five objectives: knowledge of food preservation techniques, self-confidence in canning abilities, improvement in dietary attitudes and behaviors, and motivation to pursue education. The author found that, in comparison to the control group, the members of the 4-H food preservation program made significant gains in food preservation knowledge and self-confidence, with slight but statistically insignificant gains in the other three areas. A key insight from this study is that educational experiences within 4-H Club work can lead to significant developmental benefits for participants, highlighting the potential of extracurricular activities to contribute to the education and growth of young people.
