This book presents a quantitative method to analyze the composition of coals, especially their banded ingredients, in terms of vitrain, clarain, durain, fusain, and mineral matter. It belongs to the field of ore preparation and other technologies that use coal analysis to predict performance in combustion operations. Previous analytical techniques had limitations that potentially led to significant inaccuracies, which the method presented here addresses. The author found that microscopic analysis of coal particles freed from discrete particles into individual grains provides a more precise measure of coal composition.
