This is a list of serials being received currently in the Library of the United States Department of Agriture on November 1, 1949. A serial is defined as any publication issued regularly or irregularly for an indefinite period. Any serial was considered current if it was not known to have ceased publication, and, if issues had been received since January 1947. All publicly available serials, Whether printed or processed, are included except dailies, forms, and United States Government publications intended primarily for administrative use.

Each entry includes the title of the serial and the call number used in this Library. The place of publication, if given, comes between the title and the call number. The city has been given only when it was necessary to distinguish between two serials with the same title, and for publications of the United States Government issued outside Washington, D. C. The country is given for all serials published outside the United States unless the name of the country appears in English in the title.

This list supersedes four earlier lists: (1) Catalog of the Periodicals and Other Serial Publications in the Library, issued in 1901 as Library Bulletin 37; (2) List of Periodicals Currently Received in the Library, issued in 1901 as Library Bulletin 75; (3) List of Serials Currently Received in the Library of the United States Department of Agriture, Which was issued in January 1922 as Depart= ment Cirar 187; and (4) List of Periodicals Currently Received in the Library of the United States Department of Agriture, June 1, 1936, which appeared as Miscellaneous Publication 245, and its Supplement of 1940.

Following the alphabetical list of titles is a list of words which will be abbrevi= ated in citing serial titles in the bibliographies issued by the Library.
